My Comments Across The Web

Awesome theme, very innoviative and good use of the API 10/10!
Just wanted to let you know that I’ve created a plugin for those automatic blog stats :) As per your comment, it includes pagerank, technorati, alexa, feedburner RSS count, delicious bookmarks and some other things as well.
I hope you like it :)
Would be nice if you added links to all the websites.
I don’t see anything that differentiates this (ugly) site from many other free classifieds portals.
As a matter of fact, it looks like some of those $50 script you can easily buy.
Btw, source code. Look at it.
Dan Zarrella did an awesome job, but I suggest you also take a look at the wordpress plugin over at http://www.yoast.com
The difference? Yoast’s plugin saves everything to the DB in the comments table and does not rely on the javascript file that’s pointed to danzarrella.com.
Btw, be sure to check out my “tweet stats” plugin that works in conjunction with tweetbacks. It adds a “most tweeted posts” and “recently tweeted posts” widget to your site

It’s an awesome plugin, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Twitter making an official “tweetback” protocol similar to the “trackback” protocol, as the current implementations are simply hacks using the search api, and it would be best if twitter would simply push notifications to the blog instead.
Did you know that @yoast has developed a wordpress plugin for this as well? It’s different to danzarrella’s in that everything is hosted at your own site. You’re no longer dependent on danzarrella’s hosting. (And if tweetbacks get big, I doubt danzarrella’s server could support it much longer)
The tweetbacks plugin has a writeup on smashingmagazine.com

Wesleys last blog post..Automatic Blog Stats
Joost at http://www.yoast.com has just released a self hosted tweetbacks plugin for wordpress. This saves all tweets to your DB instead of just displaying them via javascript.
In addition, I myself have written “Tweet Stats”, which adds two widgets to your site: “Most Tweeted Posts” and “Recently Tweeted Posts”.

I actually intend to use my blog mostly for announcing each and every of my website projects. The blog audience is my targeted visitor so that works out really well.
You made it, this is it. This is the place.
In all fairness about #1, there’s much more competition these days so having some disposable money can make the process that much easier.
Oh shit, I’ve gone ahead and did it. I replied with an excuse to a post about stoppping to use excuses!
“Which explains exactly why the company has been publicly criticizing the performance of the machines. “If you’ve ever used a Netbook and used a 10-inch screen size–it’s fine for an hour. It’s not something you’re going to use day in and day out,” said Intel VP Stu Pann at an event last year.”
To be fair, he’s absolutely right.
This is an awesome post, you see so many people trying to game the system, but you know that’s never going to work long term.
Great website as well!
Really useful article, you’ve summed up pretty much everything.
I like the concept of limiting the amount of time you work on the site to maximize it’s return.
“Though it will eventually have an as-of-yet undetermined licensing fee”…
This needs to be known right now, not in a few months.
Btw, to surpress the authentication dialog:
suppress_response_codes: If this parameter is present, all responses will be returned with a 200 OK status code - even errors. This parameter exists to accommodate Flash and JavaScript applications running in browsers that intercept all non-200 responses. If used, it’s then the job of the client to determine error states by parsing the response body. Use with caution, as those error messages may change.
Let me know if I can develop this further into a plugin, with proper attribution back to you :)
Ooh, that’s cool :) I’d love to make it into a wordpress plugin :)
Some good questions to ask yourself, though most time should be spend on question nr 1
Some very good tips, webhostingtalk also hosts alot of promotional offers in one of their subforums which can save you lots of money.
