My Internet Goals For 2009
Posted on December 25th, 2008 in Uncategorized | 41 Comments »
It’s that time of the year again, when we inevitably go and set new goals. Listed below are my top 10 goals for 2009:
1. Blog at least once a week
I’m not the biggest of writers, and also don’t think you need to write daily to attain a following. Notice that I did say “at least”, hopefully I write more  blog posts than that, but it shouldn’t be at the expense of quality. I intend on perhaps making this a multi-author blog to bring in people with expertise in different areas than myself.
2. Average 2000 RSS subscribers
That’s a huge number for a new, unestablished blog. Considering I now have 7 RSS subscribers, 5 of which are search bots and 1 of which is myself, that’s a “pretty big” increase.
3. Have a twitter network of at least 1000 followers
I’m currently at zero, though I obviously haven’t started using/promoting it yet. Follow me now.
4. Create 12 new websites
That amounts to 1 website per month, which sounds doable. I’ve already got a few in the works.Â
5. Create at least 20 wordpress plugins
Considering I have 5 in development right now, and a document which lists at least 50 other plugin ideas, this should be pretty easy to accomplish.Â
6. Learn a new programming language
Though I have learned Java and even Cobol during my school years, I’m currently only using PHP. I’m really interested in learning ruby and its coveted framework “ruby on rails”.
7. Be more organized
I’m very, very disorganized. I never find what I’m looking for, I forget to pay the bills, etc etc… This needs to change now.
8. Improve my English
Writing this blog is a great exercise. I’ll say it again, if you find a spelling or grammatical error in any of my posts, please do let me know.
9. Be active in online communities
This is part of trying to build a bit of a reputation. It will involve participating in forums and commenting on other blogs.
10. Work more, play less
Being online all day long can be very distracting, one thing I must learn to do is to focus more on my projects, and not get sidetracked.
There you have it, 10 goals, a nice round number. Check back in a year to see if I failed any of them.

Hey Wesley,
the Internet is distracting because it offers so much, yet so little time =P
but keep focus on what you want and you’ll succeed. I just started out as well, and is gaining some reputable points towards who i am as a blogger and as a person.
creating 12 websites in a year is doable like you said. I hope to get a follow up and see how you’re doing on that.
Happy Holidays!

Nice set of goals that you have. Here is my goals for 2009. Thanks Greg Ellison
Woa, 6 comments on the very first post. Thats more that what I could expect in 2 months. Happy new year in advance.
Cheers.
Excellent goals. I would like to see if you can keep up with the wordpress plugin goal of 20.
Good luck with your goals, setting them is important! For the 12 websites you plan to build, do you have any idea what they’re gonna be?
Ben.
Thanks for the comments and encouragement everyone
I have about 4 of those 12 websites already in certain stages of development. They’re pretty much aimed at webmasters, which is why this blog is an excellent place to announce them. As far as the specifics go, you’ll have to wait and see
Hi there. Great start. For the first 2 post, you already got a good comment community here. I believe this blog will be a successful one. Keep up the good work and go achieve your goal!
Maintaining 12 sites isn’t an easy task, Wes! You will have to do a lot of planning and organization in order to achieve that!
I’m only running a couple of sites now (my blog and a hosting service) and I barely have the time to keep them
Have a great 2009!
ikki, most of these sites will consist of user generated content. It will be very hands-off. I will be focusing on promotion and adding new features after each launch.

Nice goals, good luck with them.
Those are not unattainable goals. A year in a long time and you’ll reach your goals before you know it.
I’ve subscribed to your RSS and and followed you on twitter, so you’re off to a good start even before 2009! hehe.
Your definitely ambitious, you set high goals and you call them all achievable goals. I think this means you have the motivation it takes.
All I can say is good luck in the new year and stay on track with all your goals.
Looks like a solid plan to me
I loved this one “Improving my English”. I think I’ll take this from you.
All the best wishes, and have the power to complete this plan.
Happy holidays.
